The TN Visa is a non-immigrant visa category that allows eligible Canadian and Mexican citizens to work in the United States under the provisions of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) or its successor, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).

To be eligible for a TN Visa, you must be a citizen of either Canada or Mexico and have a qualifying profession listed under the NAFTA or USMCA treaty. Your profession should require at least a bachelor’s degree or appropriate credentials, and you must have a job offer from a U.S. employer in that specific profession.

The list of qualifying professions for a TN Visa includes various occupations such as engineers, computer systems analysts, scientific technicians, teachers, accountants, economists, and many others. It is essential to ensure that your profession is specifically mentioned in the treaty.

TN Visa holders can initially stay in the United States for up to three years. Extensions of stay can be granted in three-year increments indefinitely, as long as the TN visa holder continues to meet the eligibility requirements.

Dependent family members, including spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21, can accompany or join the TN visa holder in the United States under the TD (Trade Dependent) visa category. They cannot work in the U.S. but can study or engage in other activities.
